How and Why our Methods Work

Students retain more than 80% of what they learn when experiential learning opportunities are integrated so that they are involved physically, mentally and emotionally. If the instruction involves standard desk-style lesson plans that rely solely on the students’ ability to listen, the brain retains just 10% of what it takes in. Learning is a “whole person,” neuro-physiological process. Increasing the sensory involvement during a lesson leads to greater retention of the information and a resultant boost in our ability to apply the lessons learned to other situations. (Kovalik, Susan, ITI: The Model).

As Confucius said: I hear and I forget, I see and I remember, I do and I understand.
